Restoring Your Confidence

One Step at a Time

Life is filled with ups and downs but, it can sometimes take longer to recover from a rough patch. If your self-confidence is suffering - know you’re not alone. This is an issue faced by nearly everyone at some point in their life. It doesn’t have to be this way forever! We’ve compiled a quick list of tips and tricks for helping you restore your confidence. It might take a while, remember each day is a chance for you to invest in a better you!

Do the things you love

Never forget the things that make life worth living. Your family, pets, hobbies, and all the things that you’d be caught doing on your days off. Going to family dinners, dropping by an old friends’ place, or digging out your running shoes will help make you feel like yourself. Your life is compiled of little moments of happiness and memories that make you smile. Don’t forget to enjoy everything in your life that you hold near to your heart.

Enjoy an evening away

When stress builds, taking a break from everything is the right thing to do. Stepping back from a project or deadline can give you a whole new perspective. We suggest spending an evening away. Turn off your work email, spend time with a loved one, or just have a drink on your porch. Not only will this metal break reset your mind, but you might also even have time to reconnect with your confidence and hash out some of your self-doubts. When the time is right, encourage yourself to celebrate the little successes.

Take more pictures

Okay, some of us are camera shy but you won’t regret this decision! We spend so much of our day scrolling through social media, catching a glimpse of everyone’s life. We’re challenging you to take more photos of the people you love and of yourself. You don’t have to be a selfie queen, but we do recommend jumping at the chance to be in a group photo. Even if you don’t like the photo of yourself today, you might cherish it in the future. Pictures tell stories, don’t recast yourself!

Keep a “pick me up” box

We’ve all received heartfelt emails, little notes, postcards, and even voicemails that make us smile. Put them in a little box or save a folder on your computer with all the meaningful messages throughout the years. Even something as simple as a wonderful recommendation from a friend or boss can really lighten your mood. Bring it out when you’re feeling down as a reminder of all the people in your life who care, believe, and respect you. These physical momentos are something you can always come back to when times get tough.

Surround yourself with people who believe in you

This is the most challenging task on the list and it won’t happen overnight. Removing negativity from your life takes time, but it will work in tune with restoring your self-confidence. Evaluate your friends, co-workers, and even family members - are they adding unnecessary stress to your life? Are they making you feel guilty about your choices? Can you never seem to please them? If so, it might be time to limit your communications with them. This action isn’t done out of spite, rather, as a healing tool for your self-confidence. How will you begin to heal if you’re only fed negativity?
