Setting Goals for the New Year
How to start 2019 on the right foot!
2018 went fast! Now’s the time to begin planning your personal roadmap for next year. Begin brainstorming about your future accomplishments, goals, and what you’re most looking forward to in 2019. Follow the tips and tricks below to get started.
What makes you, you?
Outline your major attributes such as the things you love, hobbies, and passions. It’s essential to stay tuned-in on the things in life that make it worth living to you. Begin your introspective phase. Consider all the things you’ve done throughout 2018, including each an every commitment made along the way. Where there times when you found yourself overcommitted and stressed? Ask yourself if these activities add or subtract value to your life. Make 2019 a year of adding to your self-worth. It’s okay to slowly remove yourself from activities (and even social circles) that subtract from your self-realization. Make a list of everything that contributes to your life and the way you want to live.
Define the process
After reflecting, decide how you will accomplish these set goals and aspirations. It’s important to dream, but it’s more important to make it happen. If your goal is related to fitness, get everything you need, like equipment or a membership before 2018 ends so you can begin the new year off right. If you’re focused on self-meditation or reflection, read up on popular techniques and success stories. Do your research early so you can begin your goal as soon as 2019 knocks at your door. Defining the process means scheduling, planning, and setting top deadlines for meeting your goals. How will you get there? What steps do you need to take to accomplish this? Is there someone that can help me throughout the process? Ask yourself these questions to get started.
Measure your success
The year has begun and your off to the races! Ensure that you’re not falling short of your goals by tracking your progress on a timeline of your choosing. It could be every month, every week, or even every day. Record your achievements and things you’ve been working towards. This is the time to readjust your goals to meet expectations. Just as a note, there is no shame in doing that! Ensure that you’re still sticking with the core of the plan, even if you have to shift your deadlines to make it possible
Where do you go from here?
Once you’ve accomplished your goals, set new ones! But don’t forget to celebrate your successes. Whether that be treating yourself, or just taking a break from the grid to go on vacation, celebrating your accomplishments is often overlooked. Spend time with family and good friends, volunteer, and notice the little things in life that add up. Happiness comes from within. Stimulate your mind, challenge yourself, and live your life to the fullest each step of the way. Setting goals are one of the ways you can prep the direction of your life.
