Trendy Summer Hairstyles

Beat the heat and look fly!

Summer is here! Enjoy the warmer temperatures without having your hair dragging you down. Opt for a new summer style or go big with a bold look that will leave everyone speechless. Discover trendy styles and cuts below.

Braids & Buns

French braids are making a big comeback this summer. If you’re dedicated to your long locks, consider trying them back in double French braids to cool your neck. If you’re rocking shorter hair, we suggest braiding the baby hairs that frame your face to add a little style and relief from the summer sun. Buns are always a go-to summer look. This season, the Meghan, Duchess of Sussex low-bun is a crowd favorite. Part your hair in the middle, tease the hair on your crown, and then frame your face with a few waves and poof -- you’re basically royalty.

Modified Beachy Waves

Summer, beachy waves have us thinking of ocean water. But, how can you create this look without stepping foot in the sand? Consider using a sea salt spray on wet hair. We really like the Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger Texturizing Sea Spray for achieving beachy wave without the ocean. Summer typically brings some humidity, making it easier for waves to hold and build volume. When it comes to styling, consider a loose three-strand braid or a half-up-half-down look. Drew Barrymore was recently seen rocking a “hipster bun”, a new combination between a half-up-half-down look and bun topped off with beachy waves. Or keep it easy and wear your hair natural.

New-Age Ponytails

Never underestimate the power of the ponytail. This classic hairstyle has been around for ages, but this season’s trends include wrapped ponies and slicked back styles. In the heat of summer, keep your hair off your neck by sporting a high ponytail. Expert tip, keep a one-inch strand out of the ponytail, wrap it around the base, and secure it with bobby pins to complete this look. Bubble ponytails are also making the rounds this summer. Stars like Blake Lively have been rocking this playful, yet chic hairstyle.

Going Natural

The no-makeup revolution has inspired low-maintenance, natural hairstyles. Don’t torture yourself this summer by using hot styling tools every day in the summer heat. Instead, enhance or embrace your natural hair texture. Women with curly or wavy hair can use frizz-control products or smoothing serums to cut back on poof without breaking out the blow dryer. When in doubt, bun it out!

Enjoy the summer sun, but remember to keep your hair, face, and scalp protected from harmful UV rays. You can use the Awapuhi Moisture Mist by Paul Mitchell, which includes SPF in addition to your standard facial sunscreen. Learn more about this season’s trendiest styles on our blog.
