Wearing a Wig for the First Time

Cue the Confidence

Wearing a wig might seem a little intimidating, but feelings of confidence and self-realization accompany it. Discover our helpful hints for wearing your first wig.

LISTEN TO YOUR SUPPORT SYSTEM

When someone says you look good, believe them. It might feel uncomfortable at first (mainly if you're not used to being the center of attention), but the majority of people you’ll encounter are honest and caring. Lean on your family and friends if you’re having a particularly rough day. Express your concerns, listen to their advice, and most importantly - take time for yourself. Wearing your wig will seem different at first, but let it become a part of you rather than just another excuse.

ADD A LITTLE EXTRA FLARE

Nothing pairs better than confidence and your favorite outfit. When wearing your wig for the first few times, add a little something extra to your overall appearance. Try some new makeup, slide on your favorite pair of shoes, or choose an outfit that always looks good. When you’re less focused on your wig, your confidence will soar. Spending a little extra time prepping for the day will leave you more comfortable in your new wig. This goes without saying, the more you wear your wig, the more it becomes a part of you.

IF IT’S NOT WORKING, TRY SOMETHING NEW

Sometimes certain styles and colors seem like the perfect pair, but they don’t always work out in your favor. Don’t let your wig define you! Find something that suits your face shape, personal style, lifestyle, and everything that makes you, you! The goal is to keep working until you find something that suits your personality and fashion sense. And once it’s done, you’ll feel more confident than ever.

DEBUT MORE THAN ONCE

It can be scary debuting your new wig or hairpiece to your friends, family, and even co-workers. Make an individual goal to wear your wig during different functions, around different groups of people in your life. After the first couple of times, it will feel more natural than before. Start small, wear the wig to a gathering of close friends and work your way up to an evening out. The more you wear it in public, the more second nature it will become. And always acknowledge when someone says something positive (even if you’re a little embarrassed at first).

While it can be tough, wearing wig will boost your overall confidence -- you just need to give it a chance.
